AZ-05 Mitchell Stands Up For Stem Cell

Harry Mitchell is taking J.D. Hayworth to task on his abysmal record on supporting stem cell research.  Here is the link to the new web ad.  Please pass this around to anyone with an interest in promoting this life saving research and those interested in one of the seats that will bring Democrats into the majority!

Harry Mitchell is ahead by 2 points in a new SurveyUSA poll released today.  He needs your help in getting out the message that he is right on stem cell and that this race is one that Democrats WILL WIN!

Intollerance is NOT a Family Value....

but apparnetly it is a value of our Presdient...  Yesterday was declared "National Sanctity of Human Life Day."

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/01/20060120-5.html

Our President encourages the thousands of people walking the streets of DC RIGHT NOW to stand up for the unborn.  Not the poor, or those without healthcare or innocent victims of a war we created.  He does not speak to the sancitity of those lives.

We in the netroots talk about standing up to Alito, supporting a filibuster and stopping the right wing from taking the rights of citizens away through illegal wiretaps.

Today we should also express our support of women.  Because there are women walking the streets of DC on their way to work, to pick up their children at school, on the way to visit loved ones or meeting friends for lunch that are hurting.  They are a small part of the millions of women that are hurt by a culture of intollerance that looks them in the face and says "Your rights do not matter to us."

http://homepage.mac.com/geerlingguy/seminary/pro-life/articles/life_march_2005/

Walking to pick up lunch today I saw the faces of women who were clearly upset by the amount of intollerance they were being shown.  Not just by adults, but by children.  Children who yelled at women walking by, ones who did not take their stickers and pamphlets were called "Baby Killers."    It was appauling-- and sad.  Sad that children who are given all the financial and educational opportunities that life had to offer were being taught to hate.  And to judge.  Children who someday will have a friend or a colleauge or a sister who is faced with a difficult choice-- and who will not be able to turn to them because she has seen their hatred and judgment in action.

Please express your support for women.  For women's rights.  For women's equal place in our society.  Stand against the culture of intollerance and hate that today has infested our nation's capitol.

Get involved.  But also, if you choose, use this diary as a place to send a message of support to women.  Today it is a message that many need to hear.

Gerlach and Iraq: Make a Statement

Many times the netroots and the DCCC disagree about which candidates to support and which districts matter.  This is not the case in PA-06.  The Democratic candidate, Lois Murphy, is a real progressive-- but most of you probably know a little about her-- her supporters have posted here before.

I am a new convert to the Lois Murphy camp (via Emily's List).  However, I have known for a long time that Jim Gerlach is nothing more than a very reliable GOP rubber stamp.  Aparantly others are catching on:

Move On is running ads against Gerlach's support of the President's "policy" or lack there of in Iraq:

http://www.zimark.com:16080/files/MoveOn/MoveOn_PAC/mop051001_pollsshow/mop-05-1005.mov

The DCCC has targeted Gerlach for defeat and has researched the more than $30,000 Gerlach has taken from Tom Delay to help bolster his campaign efforts.

As 2005 comes to an end I encourage everyone to keep fighting against the corrupt establishment and FOR candidates that we all AGREE NEED OUR SUPPORT.

Help Lois Murphy!

Check out her website:

Make a Contribution:

And lets find candidates like Lois who we all believe in to support in 2006!

Who else should we be paying attention to?  How can we better work together to support candidates that are poised to win in 2006?

Jean Schmidt Has A Whitehouse Speechwriter

BREAKING: Bush and Schmidt Share Speechwriter

If anyone speculated that Jean Schmidt's rant on the floor of Congress might actually have been planned by someone in the administration--we have evidence you might be right.

From Bush's speech tonight:

"Since the removal of Saddam, this war - like other wars in our history - has been difficult. The mission of American troops in urban raids and desert patrols - fighting Saddam loyalists and foreign terrorists - has brought danger and suffering and loss. This loss has caused sorrow for our whole Nation - and it has led some to ask if we are creating more problems than we are solving.  That is an important question, and the answer depends on your view of the war on terror. If you think the terrorists would become peaceful if only America would stop provoking them, then it might make sense to leave them alone."

Follow the bouncing $$$...

Ok, so I know everyone is pissed about IL-06.  And we are pissed at Emmanuel and the DCCC.  And we are pissed that great candidates get screwed with in primaries.  So what are you doing about it?

I am sad that I have to write about money. I am upset that the one thing that leadership both respects and fears is an FEC report with a great big cash on hand number.

But we know that.  And we can outplay them.  We can outraise them.  Think about it.  They have lists of hundreds of donors and PACs but there are thousands of us.  Some of us can only give $20 but some of us can give $1,000. And we all know someone who can afford to be generous but has never done so before.  Call them-- today.  Make a personal plea for the candidate you care about.

So we have to do it.  Unfortunately we cannot change the rules of the game right now... They are in power and money does matter.  But they cannot deny a grassroots candidate that raises more money than their institutionalized pick.

Lets make them think.  Lets start giving every time we are pissed off and take from them the only power they have left--- their checkbook.

BREAKING: Shooting at Miami Airport

There has been a shooting on American Airlines aircraft at Miami International Airport.  A man was killed by an Federal Air Marshall at Gate 42 Concourse D.  The man was reportedly yelling that he had a bomb in a backpack and ran down the aisle of the aircraft.  The airmarshall yelled for him to stop and persued him onto the jetway where the suspect was shot and killed.

CBS in Washington just broke in on TV and reported this story.  I will update this diary when they have more information.

The Lies Get Flashier...

Ok, so the GOP is running a flashy new ad in the Virginia market.  Please let me know if you guys have seen it running anywhere else.

Aparently the President now needs the help of Bill and Hill and Harry Reid to reinforce HIS war in Iraq.  The NEED to run a media campaign supporting your foreign policy in an odd numbered year should tell you something... The Bush administration is in trouble and they know it!!

They are trying to discredit Democratic objections to their failure in Iraq, and they think that the American people will be swayed by spin and double talk and flashy ads.  It is almost surreal to be living in a country where this kind of propoganda is going on.  Its scary...

Daily Comic Relief: Fighting Dirty

Virginia Delegate races are usually not the highlight of my day, but I just had to share this little tid bit!

Fitzmas might not come for another day or two... but Santa came early in the 41st District for Democratic candidate Dave Marsden.  Apparently, his opponent has a bit of a temper... Actually enough of a temper that the State of Virginia does not want him to carry a concealed weapon.

Check this out for a little mid-day belly laughing:

Thought it might lighten the mood!
